Did You Know?

Fast Facts

The extraordinary stories, records, and engineering feats behind the world's most extreme automobiles.

Electric Dominance
The Rimac Nevera produces 1,914 hp from four electric motors — more than any other car on this list — and hits 60 mph in just 1.74 seconds. It holds multiple simultaneous world records for electric vehicles including quickest quarter mile and fastest 0–60.
🏁
The Holy Trinity
The LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder were released simultaneously in 2013–2014 — a once-in-a-generation convergence of the world's three most prestigious supercar makers all producing their ultimate hybrid hypercars at exactly the same time.
🔬
The Impossible Engine
Volkswagen Group reportedly spent $1.5 billion developing the Bugatti Veyron — and lost money on every single car sold. Engineers said it was impossible to build. Bugatti built it anyway, and changed what the world thought possible in a road car.
🎵
A Symphony at 9,000 RPM
The Lexus LFA's V10 revs so fast that conventional gauges couldn't keep up — Lexus had to use a digital display. The exhaust note was tuned by Yamaha like a musical instrument and is widely considered one of the greatest engine sounds ever recorded.
🏆
Nevada Record Day
On a single day on a Nevada highway in 2017, the Koenigsegg Agera RS set multiple simultaneous world records: 277.9 mph two-way average, fastest 0–249 mph–0 in 33.29 seconds, and fastest 0–186 mph–0 in 36.44 seconds. All broken in one run.
🎬
Ford vs Ferrari — Part II
The Ford GT was built to return to Le Mans exactly 50 years after the original GT40's historic 1-2-3 finish in 1966. In 2016, it won its class — beating Ferrari again. Hollywood couldn't write it better. Ford also required buyers to apply and rejected celebrities.
🌪️
F5 Fury
The Hennessey Venom F5 is named after the most destructive category on the Fujita tornado scale. Its 6.6L "Fury" V8 produces 1,817 hp and targets 311 mph — a speed that would require the car to cover the length of a football field every half second.
🇫1
Street-Legal F1
The Mercedes-AMG One is the only production road car ever built using a current-specification Formula 1 powertrain. It took 6 years and nearly got cancelled trying to make Lewis Hamilton's 2015 championship-winning engine comply with road car regulations.
💰
Best Value on the List
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 at ~$175,000 produces 1,064 hp and hits 233 mph — making it the greatest performance-per-dollar on this entire list. It costs less than 1/20th of the Bugatti Bolide while offering comparable straight-line speed. America's gift to enthusiasts.
